Kalsarp Dosh Puja in Trimbakeshwar: Complete Guide to Vidhi, Muhurat & Cost
Reviewed by Acharya Krishnakant Shashtri · Updated 12 July 2026
The 12 types of Kalsarp yoga, the exact vidhi followed on the Godavari ghat, which muhurat to choose, and what the ritual really costs.

What is Kalsarp Dosh?
Kalsarp Dosh forms when all seven planets of a birth chart are hemmed between the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu. The chart looks 'swallowed' by the serpent — and life reflects it: effort without result, work that stalls at the last step, and delays that repeat in the same pattern for years.
It is not a curse and it is not permanent. Vedic shastra prescribes a specific remedial anushthan, and Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga — at the source of the Godavari — is the traditional place where it is performed.
The 12 types of Kalsarp yoga
Each type is named after a serpent and afflicts a different area of life. The remedy sankalp changes with the type, which is why the kundli is always verified before a date is fixed.
- ◆Anant — mental unrest, legal disputes
- ◆Kulik — health and accident-prone phases
- ◆Vasuki — instability in career and income
- ◆Shankhpal — obstacles in job and reputation
- ◆Padma — delayed education and childbirth
- ◆Mahapadma — hidden enemies and litigation
- ◆Takshak — losses in wealth and marriage
- ◆Karkotak — sudden financial reversals
- ◆Shankhachud — restlessness and travel troubles
- ◆Ghatak — long-standing family disputes
- ◆Vishdhar — instability and constant relocation
- ◆Sheshnag — repeated betrayal and defamation
The vidhi followed at Trimbakeshwar
The anushthan begins with a Ganesh puja and Kalash sthapana on the ghat, followed by sankalp in your name and gotra. Silver serpent idols are worshipped in the Naag puja, and Rudrabhishek of the Jyotirlinga is performed with the Sri Rudram chanting. Purnahuti havan and visarjan complete the ritual.
The full anushthan takes three to four hours in a single day. A photo and video record of the entire ritual is shared with the family the same day.
Best muhurat for Kalsarp Puja
Naag Panchami, Amavasya, Panchami tithi and Mondays of Shravan are considered especially potent. Booking 7–15 days in advance allows a proper muhurat to be selected; urgent bookings within 24–48 hours can usually be arranged.
Cost and booking
Dakshina depends on the samagri, the number of brahmins and whether the family attends in person or the ritual is performed by proxy. The complete amount is told to you before booking — no charges are added later. NRI families from the USA, UK and Dubai can have the sankalp taken by proxy with a live video link.
Purna vs Aanshik Kalsarp
A 'Purna' Kalsarp Dosh occurs when all planets are strictly between Rahu and Ketu. If even one planet is outside this axis, it is called 'Aanshik' (partial) Kalsarp. While Aanshik Kalsarp is generally less severe, traditional guidance often recommends the shanti vidhi if the person is experiencing significant life obstacles aligned with serpent yoga patterns.
